Biography

Maya Haviland is a Translational Fellow and Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Heritage and Museum Studies. She leads the Scaffolding Cultural Co-Creativity Project, which is an international action learning project focused on co-creation dynamics within diverse cultural contexts. Her research specializes in community-led initiatives involving Indigenous communities, participatory action research, and evaluating practice-based research. Currently, her work explores cultural collaboration, creative innovation, traditional knowledge, and resilience within collaborative arts projects. Haviland is also an experienced community development practitioner and has worked in various roles in Australia, North America, and the Pacific for over 15 years. At ANU, she has collaborated in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, promoting co-design with industry and students. She has facilitated numerous community art projects and has exhibited her photographic works internationally. Haviland recently co-produced a documentary exploring cultural documentation's role in cultural revival and published the book 'Side By Side? Community Art Challenge Co-Creativity' in 2017.
