Biography

Maycira Costa is a Professor and the BC Leadership Chair in Environmental Remote Sensing at the University of Victoria. With a PhD from Victoria, her research interests include remote sensing, coastal oceanography, wetlands, and biogeophysical processes. Maycira leads the SPECTRAL Lab, focusing on the interaction of light energy with organic and inorganic materials in water. The lab is equipped with high-precision liquid chromatographs and hyperspectral radiometers to analyze phytoplankton pigments and other optical properties.
