Biography

Maytham Hussein is a Research Fellow and Team Leader in Anti-infective Pharmacology at Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute. His research focuses on antimicrobial pharmacology using multi-omics approaches to understand antibiotic action, tolerance, and resistance. He integrates various scientific disciplines including metabolomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and systems pharmacology to define cellular adaptations to antibiotic stress, particularly emphasizing glycopeptide antibiotics and bacterial cell wall biosynthesis. Dr. Hussein's work spans clinical mechanistic microbiology, aiming to translate omics-derived insights into improved therapeutic strategies and predictive models that strengthen antibiotic efficacy. His contributions are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly focusing on education and advancing global health.
