Dr. Mazdak Ghajari

Biography

Mazdak Ghajari is an Associate Professor in Brain Biomechanics at Imperial College London, focusing on understanding the effects of mechanical loading on the brain through various applications such as sporting collisions, road traffic incidents, falls, diseases, and surgical interventions. His research aims to develop applied solutions to predict and prevent brain injuries utilizing methods including computational modeling, impact testing, and artificial intelligence. Ghajari has led the development of the HIPER helmet rating program and has significantly contributed to establishing guidelines and standards in the field. He is deeply involved in national multi-center research platforms and has worked to improve safety standards for various helmet types through innovative testing methods. His current projects include enhancing testing methods for children's helmets and industrial helmets, and developing computational models to predict brain injuries in real-time. His teaching encompasses Solid Mechanics and Finite Element Analysis, fostering student engagement and practical learning through designed labs. He holds the title of Director of Postgraduate Studies (PhD) at the university and has supervised numerous PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, emphasizing collaboration and mentorship in the field of biomechanics research.
