Dr. Md Al Nahian

Biography

Md. Sultan Al Nahian's research focuses on Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models, and Reinforcement Learning (RL) within applied areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI). His work emphasizes AI Value Alignment and Biomedical AI, wherein he utilizes advanced NLP and multimodal machine learning techniques combined with RL to align AI agents with human values and preferences. In the domain of Biomedical AI, he concentrates on biomedical information extraction, encompassing relation extraction, entity recognition, and question-answering applications in healthcare. Prior to joining Penn State Harrisburg, he worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the Institute of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Kentucky, where he honed his research skills in these key areas. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky, developing a robust foundation in the principles and applications of AI technologies.
