Dr. Meejin Yoon

Biography

Meejin Yoon is the Gale Ira Drukier Dean of the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning at Cornell University. As a founding partner of the design practice Höweler + Yoon, Yoon integrates architecture, urbanism, and technology in her work. Her research challenges urgent environmental and social issues faced by cities and communities. The Design Scales Lab, directed by Yoon, explores the dynamic interactions between the built environment and technology, revealing complex spatial opportunities. Her design philosophy is deeply rooted in social and cultural context, manifesting in both architectonic projects and theoretical explorations. Yoon's notable projects include the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers at the University of Virginia and the Collier Memorial at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has exhibited at prominent venues including the Museum of Modern Art and the Venice Architecture Biennale, and has received multiple awards, including the World Cultural Council's Leonardo da Vinci World Award of Arts. Yoon holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University and a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University, fostering a deep commitment to architectural education and critical design practices.
