Dr. Meenakshi Richardson

Biography

Meenakshi Richardson is an Assistant Scientist at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. A member of the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe and of Indo-Fijian descent, she works alongside diverse Indigenous communities to promote generational healing, health equity, and culturally-informed prevention strategies. Her expertise includes community-based participatory research, Indigenous health, and mental health. She engages in reciprocal collaborations and decolonial praxis to address intergenerational trauma and social justice. Her research interests involve trauma transmission prevention within Indigenous populations, focusing on caregiver-child relationships, traditional healing modalities, and the socio-ecological determinants of health. She centers Indigenous knowledge and methodologies in her work to address health outcomes related to substance use and toxic stress. Her academic background includes a PhD from Washington State University and graduate degrees in public health and related fields.
