Biography

Meg Keen directs the Pacific Research Program, which supports evidence-based policy-making through collaborative partnerships with policy institutions in the Pacific Islands. Her research focuses on the geopolitics of the Pacific islands, regional security policy, and building resilience. Before rejoining the Australian National University (ANU), Meg was the Director of the Pacific Islands Program at the Lowy Institute, where she developed significant policy insights as Australia's leading international policy think tank. She has held multiple significant roles including the inaugural Director of the Pacific Security College at ANU and a Senior Policy Fellow at ANU's Department of Pacific Affairs, where she coordinated research on resilience and security in the Pacific Islands. Keen has also worked as a Senior Analyst in the Oceania Branch of the Office of National Intelligence, contributing to Australia’s Regional Assistance Mission in the Solomon Islands. Initially, Meg began her career as a lecturer in environmental studies, advising the Australian government on Asia-Pacific environmental management. She has received four Australia Day Awards for her work as a senior analyst on Pacific Islands issues and was honored with the Australian Federal Police Overseas Service Medal for her service with RAMSI. Born in Canada, Meg has resided in Australia for over 30 years and is also a Non-Resident Fellow at the Lowy Institute and a Fellow at the Australian Institute of International Affairs.
