Biography

Meg Stalcup is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Ottawa. She specializes in medical visual anthropology with a focus on the changing nature of information within law enforcement, biomedicine, and digital media. Her current research explores the ways in which knowledge and experience of topography are transformed in Southern Bahia, Brazil. Professor Stalcup directed the Multimedia Anthropology Collaboratory, which emphasizes innovative research and engagement with contemporary issues through a multimedia lens. Her research projects include investigating the politics of place in Southern Bahia and the role of viral conspiracies in shaping media narratives in Brazil. She has received significant funding for her research, including an SSHRC Insight Grant and various development grants. Stalcup has a broad academic background, having earned her PhD in Medical Anthropology and an MA in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as an MSc in Biological Sciences from the University of California, San Diego. Her teaching includes courses on contemporary theory in anthropology and she actively supervises graduate students in their research endeavors.
