Biography

Meg Stalcup is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Ottawa, specializing in medical visual anthropology. Her work critically examines the evolving intersections of information, law enforcement, biomedicine, and digital media. Currently, she is investigating how experiences of topography are transformed in Southern Bahia, Brazil. As part of her research initiatives, she directed the Multimedia Anthropology Collaboratory, promoting innovative approaches to anthropological study. Stalcup has received several grants for her projects, including an SSHRC Insight Grant for her research on topography changes in Brazil, as well as work on viral conspiracies and visual anthropology in the context of climate politics. She holds a Postdoctorate from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and completed her Ph.D. and M.A. in Medical Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to her academic pursuits, Stalcup participates actively in student supervision and mentoring within the department. She is affiliated with the Institute of the Environment and the Research Centre on the Future of Cities, reflecting her commitment to interdisciplinary research. Her teaching includes courses on contemporary theory in anthropology, allowing her to engage with students on critical and contemporary issues relevant to the field.
