Biography

Canadian pianist, Megan Chang, is an active performer, teacher, and adjudicator. She has been a permanent national adjudicator for the Canadian Music Competition since 2019 and serves as a senior examiner for the Royal Conservatory Music Examinations in North America. Chang is a core founding member of the University of Toronto’s Future Sound 6ix program, aimed at supporting racialized female-identifying and gender non-conforming youth at the university’s Electronic Music Studio. Born in Taiwan and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Chang pursued her Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance at the University of Toronto under the tutelage of Marietta Orlov. Alongside her performance studies, she joined the piano pedagogy department with Dr. Midori Koga, receiving her Master’s degree in Piano Performance Pedagogy. Chang earned her Doctor of Musical Arts under the guidance of Professor Orlov, specializing in the works of Franz Liszt and the application of orchestral sounds in piano music. Over the years, she has performed in the Netherlands, Taiwan, the USA, and Canada. In addition to piano, she is also a recipient of a Flute Performer’s Diploma under Susan Hoeppener. Currently, she teaches at the University of Toronto and was awarded the Faculty of Music Teaching Award in 2022.
