Biography

Megan Jeanette Davey was an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Western University, where she focused on the mechanisms underlying DNA replication. Her research expertise included helicases and minichromosome maintenance proteins (Mcm), with applications in cancer and aging. Dr. Davey's work examined the protein complexes involved in the initiation of DNA replication, highlighting the roles of MCM2-7 and related proteins. Her innovative approach included utilizing yeast as a model system, applying molecular genetics and functional assays to assess the enzymatic activities of both wild-type and mutant forms of these proteins. Dr. Davey published extensively on these topics and was recognized for her passion for teaching and mentoring students in the lab, providing both scientific and personal support to those she guided. Her research contributed to a better understanding of the fundamental processes of cell division critical to both normal and diseased states, including cancer. Her work was funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, and the Ontario Innovation Trust.
