Biography

Megan Anne Holmes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at Duke University. She is a trained anatomist and an evolutionary biologist, with a research focus on feeding behavior adaptations and primate cranial muscular morphology. Her recent research includes studies on muscle fiber phenotypes in primate chewing muscles, funded by grants from the National Science Foundation and Touro University. In her teaching role, she is the Course Director and main instructor for the Physician Assistant Gross Anatomy Course and Lab, and she co-coordinates the PA Practice Health Systems course. Additionally, Dr. Holmes is committed to creating equitable and inclusive learning environments in academia. She has been active in various professional activities related to privilege, equity, and justice in healthcare education, including serving on committees aimed at integrating equity into the medical curriculum. Her work also encompasses discussions around structural barriers to health and justice within the educational sphere. Her professional involvement includes roles in the American Association of Biological Anthropology and contributions to the Duke PA Program.
