Biography

Megan L. McCain earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and completed her Doctoral Degree in Engineering Sciences at Harvard University. As a graduate student, she engineered cardiac cells and tissues to investigate the role of mechanotransduction in cardiac development and disease. After her doctoral studies, Megan continued her research as a post-doctoral researcher at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard, where she developed microscale functional mimics of human cardiac tissues, known as the "Heart Chip." In 2014, she joined the University of Southern California (USC) as an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and currently holds a joint appointment in the Department of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine. Her research group, the Laboratory for Living Systems Engineering, focuses on engineering novel “Organ Chip” platforms for human disease modeling and drug screening, particularly in cardiac and skeletal muscle applications. Megan has received multiple accolades for her innovative research, including the Scientist Development Grant from the American Heart Association and recognition as a Top Innovator under 35 by MIT Technology Review.
