Biography

Megen de Bruin-Molé is an Associate Professor of Digital Media Practice at the Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. She specializes in contemporary remix culture, adaptation, and 'monstrous' narratives. Her notable works include 'Gothic Remixed' (2020), which examines popular remix culture through the lens of monster studies, and 'Embodying Contagion' (2021), a co-edited collection investigating the fantasies that outbreak narratives foster in real-world perspectives. As a significant contributor to the field, Megen has numerous academic publications focusing on remix, historical fiction, and popular culture. She is the Co-Director of the Critical Infrastructures and Image Politics (CIIP) research group and the London Science Fiction Research Community. Megen is involved with the Critical Posthumanism Network, where she co-edited the Palgrave Handbook of Critical Posthumanism. Her current research projects explore the intersections of critical posthumanism, digital afterlives, and appropriation of historical archives. Megen has a background in teaching, previously serving as a lecturer at Cardiff University and as a Programme leader for the MA Global Media Management at Winchester School of Art. She is actively engaged in MA and PhD supervision, and is interested in guest lecturing opportunities in related fields.
