Biography

Meghan Gilhespy is an experimental vocalist and jazz scholar specializing in feminist jazz historiography. She researches the cultural politics of experimental jazz singing, particularly as it relates to women in Canada. Gilhespy obtained her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies and has a long history of conventional jazz performance, including her own published album 'Vive Le Tour' (2016). She has also contributed studio work for Netflix and the National Film Board of Canada, presenting multiple improvised performances alongside dancers, thereby expanding her skills as an experimental vocal improviser. Currently, she serves as the Coordinator for Jazz Studies at Concordia University and is a faculty member for the Creative Music Workshop in 2024.
