Biography

Meghan Elizabeth Kallman is an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Global Inclusion and Social Development at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She earned her PhD in Sociology in 2016 from Brown University and holds additional degrees from the University of Chicago and Smith College. Kallman has been awarded prestigious grants from the National Science Foundation and the Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy, as well as support from the Cogut Center. Her work employs organizational theory to understand social change, with her current project focusing on the Peace Corps to explore how organizations shape the politics of intrinsically motivated participants. She has contributed to the field of network theory in social movements, and her recent book, "The Sector," was published by the University of Illinois Press in 2016. Additionally, she is preparing another book titled "The Death of Idealism" to be published next year. Kallman has also served as a fellow at the Women’s Policy Institute of Rhode Island during 2015-2016, is a city councilor in Pawtucket, RI, and was elected to serve as a member of the Rhode Island Senate for the 15th District in November 2020.
