Mehdi Jazayeri is a professor in computer science and the founding dean of the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Lugano. He served as a professor and head of the Distributed Systems Group at the Technical University of Vienna from 1994 to 2007. Jazayeri has held technical management positions at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories in Palo Alto, Synapse Computer Corporation, Ridge Computers, and TRW Vidar. A Fulbright Scholar at the University of Helsinki in 1979 and visiting professor at Politecnico di Milano in 1988, he was named an IEEE Fellow in 2007 and later became an IEEE Life Fellow in January 2015. He received the ACM SIGSOFT's Influential Educator Award in 2012 for his contributions to software engineering education and curriculum development and was honored with the Distinguished Educator Award by the IEEE TCSE in 2013 for his outstanding contributions to the field. Jazayeri holds degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (SB, 1971) and Case Western Reserve University (MS, 1973; PhD, 1975).
