Biography

Dr. Mehdi Kashani is an Associate Professor in Structural Earthquake Engineering and Deputy Director of Research in the Department of Civil, Maritime, and Environmental Engineering (CMEE) at the University of Southampton. His research focuses on enhancing the resilience and sustainability of civil infrastructure under extreme loading conditions and environmental degradation. He joined the University of Southampton as a lecturer in 2017 and quickly advanced to Associate Professor in 2018. His previous role was as a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol, after earning his PhD in 2014. Dr. Kashani is a recognized leader in the field, having contributed to significant civil engineering projects, including the award-winning London Olympic Cable Car. His extensive publication record includes over 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and numerous conference papers, showcasing his expertise in large-scale static and dynamic structural testing, nonlinear modeling, and residual life prediction of aging infrastructure systems. He actively supervises PhD students and postdoctoral researchers and has secured substantial funding for various high-profile research projects.
