Biography

Mehdi Pouragha is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University. He holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Sharif University of Technology, Iran, and a Ph.D. from the University of Calgary. His research interests include constitutive modeling of geomaterials, geomechanics in cold regions, and the effects of climate change on subsurface conditions. He specializes in micromechanics of granular materials, thermo-hydro-mechanical behaviors, and the mechanics of unsaturated geomaterials. His work employs discrete element modeling and finite element modeling to analyze multiphysical processes in complex systems. He has a significant focus on the impact of thawing and freezing effects in permafrost layers and the evaluation of water retention in various materials. Furthermore, he teaches various courses, including Geotechnical Engineering and Numerical Methods for Geotechnical Engineering.
