Dr. Mehmet Orgun

Biography

Mehmet Orgun is a Professor at the School of Computing, Macquarie University, Sydney. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science Engineering from Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey in 1982 and 1985, respectively, and completed his PhD at the University of Victoria, Canada in 1991. As a Senior Member of the IEEE, he has conducted extensive research in areas including Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge Discovery, Biomedical Image Processing, Multi-Agent Systems, and Trusted & Secure Systems. Over his academic career, he has supervised 30 PhD candidates and 5 Master's students and has successfully secured over $4 million in research funding from numerous Australian Research Council grants. His collaborative research with industry partners such as the Australian Taxation Office and the Defence Science Technology Organisation has been noteworthy. He serves on editorial review boards for leading journals and has held significant roles in program committees for various national and international conferences, including the role of program co-chair for the 14th Pacific-Rim International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 2010. Orgun has received several awards for his research performance, notably for his contributions to semantic mining techniques and dynamic trust prediction approaches in online social networks.
