Biography

Mehrdad Kazerani is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo. His work spans teaching, theoretical and experimental research in power electronics, as well as various administrative roles. His research interests include modeling and control of DC/DC converters, voltage-sourced and current-sourced converters, grid integration of renewable energy sources, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, energy storage systems, smart battery chargers, vehicle-to-grid capabilities, energy access, and microgrids. Kazerani has supported a variety of governmental agencies and partnered with industry leaders to advance his research. He actively contributes to multidisciplinary projects and has supervised a wide range of post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students in their research. In addition to regular teaching, he teaches online graduate courses tailored for power industry employees as part of the University of Waterloo's MEng Power Engineering program. Kazerani has authored and co-authored numerous patents, journal articles, and conference papers. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and has served on technical sub-committees, organized special sessions for IEEE conferences, and acted as an editor for special sections of IEEE Transactions. He is involved as the faculty advisor for the Alternative Fuels Team at the University of Waterloo, among other professional roles.
