Biography

Professor Mehrdad Shamloo has extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry in the San Francisco Bay Area, focusing on Central Nervous System (CNS) drug discovery and pre-clinical development. In 2008, he joined Stanford University to establish the Behavioral Functional Neuroscience Laboratory (BFNL), which advances the understanding of normal and pathological brain functions related to neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and substance use disorders. His current research aims to identify neurodegenerative pathways responsible for selective neuronal vulnerability in sensitive brain nuclei associated with these disorders. Furthermore, Professor Shamloo is dedicated to accelerating the translation of experimental discoveries into novel therapeutic approaches for improving the quality of life of patients with brain disorders. He obtained his doctoral degree from the Wallenberg Neuroscience Center at Lund University in Sweden.
