Biography

Mehrdad Zangeneh obtained a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from King's College London and a PhD from the University of Cambridge. He has worked as a research fellow at Churchill College, Cambridge before joining University College London as a lecturer. Zangeneh is involved in the development of computational design methods to improve performance and reduce development time in turbomachinery, including turbines, compressors, pumps, and marine propulsors. His work utilizes 3D inverse design and multi-objective automatic optimization techniques. He has engaged in collaborative research projects with major turbomachinery manufacturers such as Ebara Corporation, Nissan Motors, Hitachi Japan, and ABB Turbo, leading to significant advancements in the field and resulting in eight international patents. In 2000, he was awarded the Gold Medal by Japan’s Turbomachinery Society and in 2003, the Donald Julius Grone Prize from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. His impactful work has been featured in prominent publications such as New Scientist and Business Week. Zangeneh is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, as well as a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He has published over 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
