Biography

Mehrnoosh Fetrat is an award-winning Iranian filmmaker based in Chicago, currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Instruction at Northwestern University. She has previously taught at Drexel University, the College of New Jersey, Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, Temple University, and Saint Joseph's University. Mehrnoosh has written, produced, and directed several short films including 'War Game,' 'America,' and 'Copsi,' which have been showcased at over 50 film festivals and galleries in the U.S., Germany, Italy, Nigeria, Croatia, Turkey, Iraq, India, and the UK. Her films have been featured in noteworthy events such as the Kurdish Film Festival in Berlin, the Tehran International Film Festival, and Sundance Collab. They have also been distributed by the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre and streamed on platforms like Comcast Streampix and TUTV. Mehrnoosh has received various awards and nominations for her films, including recognition at the Artemis Film Festival and nominations for the Princess Grace Award and PEW Fellowship. She holds an M.A. in Cinema Studies from Tehran University of Art and an M.F.A. in Film Production from Temple University. Her research primarily focuses on the German New Wave, particularly the works of Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and Iranian cinema. She has also written and translated articles on related topics. Currently, she is in post-production for a short fiction film titled 'Raw, Cooked, Burned' and a feature documentary called 'Unfinished: Kamran Shirdel.'
