Dr. Meisam Jalalvand

Biography

Meisam Jalalvand is an Associate Professor at the University of Southampton, specializing in Composite Materials and Structures. He has recognized expertise in the characterization and analysis of fiber-reinforced composite materials, including carbon-fiber and glass-fiber composites. His research focuses on high-performance hybrid composites and natural fiber biodegradable composites, aiming to enhance understanding, performance, safety, and sustainability. His areas of study are particularly relevant to addressing pressing global issues such as climate change and plastic pollution. Jalalvand has successfully led multiple research projects funded by prestigious organizations like the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Royal Academy of Engineering, and the British Council. He completed his BSc, MSc, and PhD in Aerospace Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology in Tehran, where his doctoral research involved studying the interaction of delamination and matrix cracking in composite laminates using a self-developed nonlinear Finite Element code. Jalalvand began his career as a Research Associate at the University of Bristol in 2012, advancing to Senior Research Associate in 2016, before joining the University of Strathclyde as a Chancellor’s Fellow in 2017 until 2020, when he transitioned to the University of Southampton.
