Biography

Meisam Razaviyayn is an associate professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Quantitative Computational Biology, and Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern California. He serves as the associate director of the USC-Meta Center for Research Education in AI Learning. Prior to joining USC, he was a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. Razaviyayn received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota, where he also obtained his M.Sc. degree in Mathematics. His research interests focus on the design and study of fundamental aspects of optimization algorithms arising in the modern data science era, specifically scalable and trustworthy optimization tools for applications in machine learning. Razaviyayn has been recognized with several awards, including the NSF CAREER Award in 2022, the Northrop Grumman Excellence in Teaching Award in 2022, and the AFOSR Young Investigator Award in 2021. He is a silver medalist of Iran’s National Mathematics Olympiad, emphasizing his strong background in both mathematics and engineering. His commitment to innovative research and education continues to make a significant impact in the field.
