Melanie Blokesch holds a PhD degree from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, Germany, completed in 2004. Her research interests focus on the evolution of bacteria, horizontal gene transfer, and host-pathogen interactions, among others. She has received numerous awards, including the ERC Starting Grant in 2012 and the Teaching Award from EPFL. As an educator, she has supervised various PhD students in the field of infection biology.
