Professor Dr. Melanie Campbell

Biography

Melanie Campbell leads a multidisciplinary research group focusing on ocular development, eye disease, and optical properties of the eye. Her work includes investigating fundamental refractive properties of the eye's components in order to improve diagnosis and therapy for various ocular conditions. Through clinical imaging technology and photon therapies, she aims to foster advancements in disease detection and modeling of optical systems. With a profound background in physics and applied mathematics, Campbell holds multiple postdoctorate degrees and has been recognized for her contributions to the field with numerous awards, including the Ontario Confederation Women of Distinction Award and a University Research Chair at the University of Waterloo. She has served in various roles in professional associations, including leadership positions with the Optical Society of America and the Canadian Association of Physicists, where she has been instrumental in advancing the field of optics and its application to vision science.
