Biography

Melanie Garson teaches on international conflict resolution and international security at University College London (UCL) and has been involved in academia since 2010. She currently teaches the flagship course 'From Cyberwarfare to Robots: The Future of Conflict in the Digital Age', which examines the nexus of disruptive technology and innovation in building defense resilience. Her courses also encompass international negotiation and technology diplomacy. As the acting Director of Careers & Alumni at UCL, she organizes the annual Political Science Careers Week, providing practical insights and thought leadership to policymakers across the full spectrum of cyber policy, technology geopolitics, and defense innovation challenges. Her previous experience includes advising on cyber resilience policy at HM Treasury and serving at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. Melanie has a rich background in public international law, international arbitration, and has worked in several key roles including at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and various organizations in Israel and the United States. She holds a PhD from UCL, as well as a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School, and a BA (Hons) in Oriental Studies from Cambridge.
