Biography

Melanie has a 20-year career in the NHS prior to joining King's College London in February 2021. Her passions include cardiology, nursing leadership, and sustainable healthcare. She has worked as a Cardiac Specialist Nurse, Coronary Care Ward Manager, Resuscitation Officer, Accident Emergency Sister, and Medical Matron, bringing abundant clinical knowledge and insight into UK healthcare to both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the Faculty. As Sustainability Liaison Lead alongside Dr. Jocelyn Cornish, Melanie delivers teaching and provides support to students and staff regarding environmentally sustainable healthcare delivery. She has proactively contributed to the recent successful Beacon Status accreditation for the Faculty Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, and continues to work on active projects to embed this message in further ways. Moreover, Melanie is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusivity, being an ally for LGBTQ+ issues and the Black Lives Matter movement. She leads modules such as Working and Motivating in Cardiac Care, and teaches optional modules for undergraduate nursing students and master's level students. On 20 March 2024, Melanie's work in sustainability was shortlisted for the London Higher Awards 2024, recognizing the Faculty's efforts to embed sustainability in healthcare teaching.
