Dr. Melanie Morrison

Biography

Dr. Melanie Morrison is a Professor in the College of Arts and Science at the University of Saskatchewan. She leads the Saskatchewan Equity, Equality, Diversity (SEED) Lab, focusing on understanding contemporary forms of prejudice and discrimination, particularly concerning marginalized social groups. Her research investigates the attitudes, behaviors, and psychophysiological reactions related to stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination, with a strong emphasis on their impact on the well-being of individuals from diverse backgrounds. Morrison's work is characterized by utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to gain insight into the complex nature of social biases. She is particularly interested in how social class, gender identity, and sexual orientation intersect with prejudice and discrimination, aiming to document and address ongoing biases within these frameworks. This research is vital for educating her students, as she emphasizes the importance of confronting biases and understanding the motivations behind prejudicial behavior. With an extensive educational background, including a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Victoria, a Master of Science from the University of Northern British Columbia, and a PhD in Experimental Psychology from the University of Ottawa, Dr. Morrison is dedicated to advancing the study of social justice, discrimination, and health inequalities.
