Dr. Melanie Sion

Biography

Melanie Sion, MD, FACS, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine, where she specializes in General Surgery, Trauma, and Surgical Critical Care. She treats a variety of conditions and integrates emergency general surgery with minimally invasive surgical techniques. Dr. Sion has a special interest in providing care to underserved and vulnerable populations both domestically and internationally. In her practice, she focuses on improving health care equity and access. Dr. Sion is dedicated to developing surgical services in Southern and East Africa and is an educator in the Yale community regarding health disparities in surgical care due to global poverty. Her professional activities include being a member of the American College of Surgeons and serving on various committees aimed at enhancing surgical care. Additionally, Dr. Sion has contributed to the provision of surgical services in low- and middle-income countries, emphasizing her commitment to trauma emergency surgery and exceptional patient care in critical situations.
