Dr. Melanie Walker

Biography

Dr. Melanie Walker is an Assistant Professor and Resident Research Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Queen's University, where she holds a PhD in epidemiology. She has completed a postdoctoral fellowship focused on knowledge translation and implementation science. In her role, she oversees scholar competency milestones within the emergency department residency program and co-leads the design and delivery of a research fundamentals curriculum for residents. Dr. Walker provides methodological support for resident scholarly projects, including guidance for presentations at the annual RJ Brison Research Day, a core requirement of training. She collaborates with faculty, residents, and medical students on diverse research initiatives, contributing epidemiological expertise to grant applications and scholarly publications. Her specific research interests encompass population health, social determinants of health, and vulnerable populations, and she serves as a co-Principal Investigator on the RECONNECT study, aimed at improving emergency department care experiences for equity-seeking groups. Additionally, Dr. Walker is involved in the Scholar Competency team, acts as the Undergraduate Medical Education Co-Director for the Medical Student Research Showcase, and has taught various graduate-level courses, including topics in Cancer Biology and Global Health.
