Biography

Professor Zurba’s work focuses on projects developed and implemented in collaboration with communities. She has worked collaboratively with Indigenous communities in Canada and abroad on projects concerning co-management of species in protected areas, shared forest tenure agreements, Clean Environment Commission hearings, water regulation, land use occupancy mapping studies, food sovereignty, health promotion and well-being, and land-based learning curriculum development. Her work has contributed to the public discussion of what 'reconciliation' means in Canada, focusing on learning, relationship building, and shared-governance of land. Additionally, Professor Zurba is interested in the global policy frameworks that affect community participation in day-to-day environmental management.
