Biography

Professor Melany L. Hunt holds the Dotty Dick Hayman Professorship in Mechanical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1983, followed by a Master of Science from the University of California in 1985, and her Ph.D. in 1987. Hunt began her academic career as an Assistant Professor at Caltech, becoming an Associate Professor in 1995 and a full Professor in 2001. She held the Kenan Professorship from 2012 to 2013, and became the Hayman Professor in 2013. Additionally, she served as Executive Officer from 2002 to 2007 and as Vice Provost from 2007 to 2014. Her research focuses on transport mechanics in multiphase systems, such as granular particulate flows, fluidized beds, and porous media, as well as their related energy systems.
