Biography

Melgardt de Villiers is a Professor in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor of Pharmacy, Master of Science, and PhD in Pharmaceutics from North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa. His research interests include the development of novel nanometer and micrometer-sized drug delivery systems using techniques such as layer-by-layer self-assembly and the use of dendrimers and calixarenes for drug solubilization. Since joining the faculty at Wisconsin in 2005, he has contributed significantly to the field of pharmaceutical science, focusing on the engineering and materials sciences principles that underpin drug delivery technologies. He has authored or co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and has presented his research extensively at more than 100 international meetings. In addition to his academic roles, he serves as an associate editor for the AAPS PharmSciTech Journal and has received multiple accolades, including being named an Outstanding Professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and elected as a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
