Biography

Dr. Melinda Mushonga is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology at Queen's University and Attending Staff at Kingston General Hospital. She completed her undergraduate medical degree and specialty training in Clinical Oncology at the University of Zimbabwe, followed by a Clinical Fellowship in Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto. Her clinical interests include gynecological malignancies, lung cancer, breast cancer, palliative radiotherapy, and central nervous system malignancies. Dr. Mushonga's key career goal is to advance radiation oncology by introducing and strengthening advanced radiation techniques, including image-guided brachytherapy for gynecological cancers. Her research interests are focused on global oncology and include clinical outcomes research emphasizing access to culturally appropriate, evidence-based cancer care. She is committed to strengthening bidirectional education and training in radiation oncology between low- and high-income settings. Dr. Mushonga is also an active member of various oncology organizations, including the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
