Biography

Melissa Eshelman, M.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Dell Medical School, The University of Texas at Austin. She also serves as the associate director of psychiatric services at the UT Austin Counseling Mental Health Center. Eshelman earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and completed her psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Southern California. Additionally, she completed a forensic psychiatry fellowship at the USC Institute of Psychiatry, Law and Behavioral Science. Prior to her current position, Eshelman worked as an adult and child psychiatrist in various settings in Portland, Oregon, and held the role of medical director at the Providence Crisis Triage Center. She is board certified in psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry. Eshelman has been actively involved in expanding psychiatric training opportunities and has served on multiple committees within the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians and the American Psychiatric Association. Her professional interests focus on working with first-generation college students and underrepresented populations, particularly transitional-aged youths.
