Dr. Melissa Langhan

Biography

Melissa Langhan is a Professor of Pediatrics at Yale University School of Medicine with a focus on Pediatric Emergency Medicine. She completed her medical education at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn, graduating summa cum laude in 2000. Following her medical degree, she trained in pediatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where she also completed her chief residency. Langhan then pursued a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Yale University. Her early research aimed to enhance patient care in the emergency department through innovative technology, including capnography and portable spirometry. She has played a key role in multiple educational research initiatives, particularly addressing equity and bias in assessments of trainees. Active in professional committees, Langhan contributes to the advancement of medical education and is involved in fostering educational scholarship among faculty and trainees. Currently, her research interests are centered on clinical outcomes in pediatric emergency medicine and the improvement of technology use in acute care settings. She is also involved in mentoring early career faculty and fellows, focusing on supporting diversity in the medical workforce.
