Biography

Melissa Murphy is a Distinguished Service Professor of Marketing at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business, where she teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in Integrated Marketing Communications, New Product Development, Innovation, and Brand Management. She is actively involved in several programs at the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship and the Corporate Start-Up Lab, developing tools that help companies adapt and integrate entrepreneurial practices with their own innovation strategies. In her role at CSL, Melissa leads a capstone course on corporate entrepreneurship, where interdisciplinary teams of graduate students partner with large companies to develop and test innovative solutions. In addition, she teaches courses in the Master's programs for Innovation Products Service and Engineering & Technology Innovation Management. As a seasoned corporate executive with extensive experience, Melissa has worked with numerous companies and gained international recognition for successful campaigns. She runs her own consulting firm and frequently conducts speaking engagements and workshops. Her accolades include being awarded the “Best Executive” by the Stevie Awards for Women in Business, the Pittsburgh Business Women Business Award, and being a finalist for the Greater Pittsburgh ATHENA Award. In recognition of her achievements during Women’s History Month, the City of Pittsburgh honored her with a proclamation declaring “Melissa Murphy Day.”
