Biography

Melissa K. Passarelli is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Concordia University. She earned her Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University after completing her Bachelor of Science at Union College. Her research interests primarily focus on Imaging Mass Spectrometry (IMS), Spatial 'omics, Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS), and Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization (MALDI). In her current work, she utilizes mass spectrometry-based techniques for intracellular drug measurements and is developing a multi-modal analytical approach that integrates live-cell atomic force microscopy (AFM) with single-cell mass spectrometry (MS) to evaluate intracellular drug levels. Her research aims to deepen the understanding of cellular uptake of pharmaceutical compounds and to investigate the biochemical effects of therapeutic levels and potential toxic levels of various compounds.
