Dr. Melsia Kraftner

Biography

Melsia Tomlin Kraftner is a Lecturer in Management at the University of Bristol. She has a PhD in Sociology and Anthropology, with a focus on management in relation to social structures and power relations. Her research interests include gender, race, and historical sociology, particularly pertaining to postcolonial British Caribbean societies, with an emphasis on Jamaica. Her work often explores the movement of people during the Windrush era and the historical social policies that have influenced race relations, exacerbated poverty, and generated distrust in the criminal justice system due to systemic racism. Kraftner employs theories of peasantry, gender, race, and intersectionality to inform her research and to contribute to discussions surrounding social policy and reparations for ex-British colonies.
