Biography

Melynda Price is a Professor at the University of Michigan, with a focus on interdisciplinary research concerning legal advocacy and issues related to monuments and memorial sites. She has previously held positions as the J. David Rosenberg Professor of Law and the Joan Gaines Professor of Humanities at the University of Kentucky, where she also directed the Gaines Center for the Humanities. Price served as the Director of the African American and Africana Studies Program at the University of Kentucky from 2012 to 2017. She has been a fellow in the Law and Public Affairs Program at Princeton University and a visiting researcher at the Mannheim Center for Criminology and Criminal Justice at the London School of Economics. Her research primarily intersects race, law, gender, citizenship, and politics, exploring the role of law in both the U.S. and global contexts. She is the author of 'Cross: Race, Religion, Citizenship, Politics, Death Penalty' and her works have appeared in numerous peer-reviewed journals and literary publications. Price obtained her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan, a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, and a B.S. in Physics from Prairie View A&M University.
