Biography

Dr. Meng-Chuan Lai is a staff psychiatrist and clinician scientist at the O’Brien Scholar Child and Youth Mental Health Collaborative at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. He serves as an Associate Professor and Co-Chair of the Advisory Council for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Clinical Care in the Department of Psychiatry, the Graduate Faculty, and the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto. He is also an Honorary Visiting Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge and an Adjunct Attending Psychiatrist at the National Taiwan University Hospital. Dr. Lai's research focuses on multi-level factors affecting clinical services aimed at improving mental health and well-being for neurodivergent individuals, particularly those with autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions. His work delineates the roles of sex and gender in risk, protection, and modulation of behavioral presentation and clinical recognition of psychiatric conditions. Additionally, he explores social cognition and the connections between neurobiology and mental health.
