Biography

Meng Cheng is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at Yale University. He received his undergraduate degree from Nanjing University in China and obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2013, where he studied the applications of topological superconductivity in quantum information processing. Following his Ph.D., he held a postdoctoral research position at Microsoft Research, Station Q in Santa Barbara, focusing on the interplay between global symmetry and topological quantum order. He joined the Department of Physics at Yale University in 2016. His research primarily concentrates on Condensed Matter Physics, with a focus on theoretical aspects including quantum criticality, fractonic phases, and symmetric topological phases. Cheng has received several prestigious awards, including the NSF CAREER award and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship in 2019.
