Biography

Meng Gong graduated with a BScE and MScE in Wood Science Technology from Nanjing Forestry University in China, followed by a PhD in Wood Engineering from the University of New Brunswick (UNB). He joined UNB in 2003 as a Research Scientist at the Wood Science Technology Centre (WSTC) and has served as its Director multiple times. Dr. Gong was appointed as the New Brunswick Innovation Research Chair in 2016, leading a five-year research program focused on Advanced Wood Products Construction. His research expertise includes wood quality, wood modification, and engineered wood products. He has published over 140 referred research papers and 80 technical reports in wood technology and engineering. His current interests encompass innovative engineered wood products, durable filaments for 3D printing, mobile and fixed tiny wood houses, and life cycle assessment of wood products and timber buildings. Dr. Gong is a voting member of the Canadian Commission on Construction Materials Evaluations (CCCME) and the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada. In 2015, he was elected as a Fellow of the International Academy of Wood Science (IAWS), an honor that recognizes his significant contributions to the field of wood science.
