Biography

Menna Agha is an Associate Professor at the Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism, Carleton University. She is an architecture activist and researcher, serving as the founding Director of the Architecture Action Lab. Agha is cross-appointed at Carleton University’s Institute of African Studies. As a third-generation displaced Nubian woman, her unique background informs her research interest in race, gender, space, and territory. She holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Antwerp and a Master of Arts in Gender and Design from the Köln International School of Design. In the 2019/2020 academic year, she was a Spatial Justice Fellow and visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Oregon. Her scholarly work addresses various themes, including spatial justice and Nubian identities, and she has contributed to multiple publications and journals, such as the Architectural Histories Journal and the Funambulist Magazine. Agha's research covering social equity and design challenges is recognized across various platforms.
