Biography

Meredith Franklin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto and holds a joint appointment with the School of the Environment. Previously, she was faculty at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (2010-2021). Her interdisciplinary research focuses on quantifying environmental exposures using spatiotemporal statistical and machine learning approaches to assess impacts on health outcomes. She is a leader in developing methods that utilize remote sensing data for exposure assessment across a variety of environmental factors, including air pollution, wildfires, flaring of oil and gas, artificial light at night, and greenspace. Franklin has conducted highly cited population-based epidemiological studies on the associations between air pollution and health.
