Biography

Meredith K. Hastings is a prominent researcher in the field of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.Sc. in Marine Science and Chemistry from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL, in 1998. She earned her Ph.D. from Princeton University in 2004. Following her doctorate, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington. In 2008, she joined the faculty at Brown University, where she serves as the George Ide Chase Professor and chair of the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences. Hastings's research focuses on the reactive nitrogen cycle and the impacts of nitrogen deposition on air quality and climate. She employs novel isotopic measurement techniques and modeling studies to investigate issues such as anthropogenic emissions and their effects on atmospheric composition. Over the years, she has received multiple grants and awards, including the American Geophysical Union Atmospheric Sciences Ascent Award in 2014 and the NSF CAREER grant. She has also contributed significantly to scholarly work in atmospheric chemistry and serves on various editorial boards and as a reviewer for numerous scientific journals.
